Day 1: Wednesday

Ankomst Namsos

Scandic Rock City, Namsos

Feel free to spend time in Steinkjer

On Wednesday evening, the tour starts with a joint information meeting in Namsos. If you are arriving by car, it is a great opportunity to stop in Steinkjer where you can stop by the Tourist Office, and walk the popular trail up to Oftenåsen (with the worlds largest garden chair).

Take some time to wander through the distinctive city centre, which, like Namsos, is characterised by the architecture of the reconstruction towns after World War II.

Just north of Steinkjer, you can also stop by the charming Lensmannsgården to browse beautiful glass art or a bite to eat in the summer café.

Joint dinner and information meeting

The tour officially starts at Scandic Rock City in Namsos, at 6:00 PM.
There will be a pleasant joint chat with simple refreshments and an information meeting at the hotel in the evening.

Day 2: Thursday (32 km)

Namsos - Jøa

Segelsund, Jøa

Trønder rock and free time in the morning

After breakfast, we’ll visit the Rock City exhibition located next to the hotel. A local guide will take us through the history of Trønder rock music, and we’ll get to learn more about some of artists comming from Namsos.

When the museum visit is over, you’ll have time to explore Namsos by bike and you might want to bike up to Klompen, the town mountain offering fantastic views over the town, the fjord, and the salmon river Namsen.

Express boat to the island gem of Jøa

At 12:10 we head for Jøa by express boat, and 40 minutes later we arrive at this scenic island.

Check-in at Segelsund will be at 13:00, where you can prepare for a pleasant afternoon bike ride on Jøa. Jøa is known as a great island for cycling, with small roads and little traffic. We will ride a loop with several interesting stops (31.7 km), and you’ll also have the chance to walk the Jøa Steps, which have 938 steps. From there, we can enjoy the view over Folla and the Namdal coast.

A pleasant evening at Segelsund

We will be staying at the charming farm hotel Segelsund, with accommodation in cosy rooms in the old storehouse and the guesthouse. Bathrooms and toilets are shared.
Segelsund is a smallholding with slightly more unusual animals than you might expect. Here, you can meet Magda the llama, Pål Fuggel the peacock, and the rest of the colourful, furry and feathered crew.

In the evening, we gather for a shared dinner in Bedehuset Bar & Bistro, where we are served delicious local food in delightful surroundings.

Day 3: Friday (54 km)

Jøa - Abelvær - Rørvik

Kysthotellet Rørvik

After breakfast at Segelsund, we will cycle to visit the childhood home of the author Olav Duun, where local guides will welcome us.

Olav Duun was born on Jøa in 1876. He is regarded today as one of the most significant Norwegian authors of the early 20th century, and he was nominated several times for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Afterwards, we enjoy lunch and more local stories and hospitality at Matgaragen before returning to Seierstad and taking the boat from Jøa to Abelvær at 12:50, arriving at 13:15.

Free time in Rørvik

After a 38.4‑kilometre bike ride, we arrive in Rørvik. Once we reach the town, we check in at Kysthotellet, and you will have time to explore this charming coastal town at your own pace.

The small town of Rørvik is characterised by its traditional wooden buildings, and the distinctive building of the Norveg Coastal Museum is easy to recognise. Its unique architecture, reminiscent of a ship with full sails, reflects both the proud coastal heritage and the important role the Norwegian coastline will continue to play in the future. A visit to the museum is highly recommended.

For more than 100 years, Rørvik has been an important centre for aquaculture and trade in the region. The town adapted early to the rise of steamship traffic in the 19th century and took on a central role as sailing ships were replaced by steam vessels.

Rørvik has also held a key place in the history of the Hurtigruten, serving as a regular port of call since 1893. Every evening, the northbound and southbound ships meet here as they travel along the coast.

Dinner on your own

This evening, dinner is on your own, giving you a great opportunity to explore the local dining options. If anyone wishes to dine together, this can be arranged with the tour leader.

Day 4: Saturday (30 km)

Utflukt til Leka

Kysthotellet Rørvik

Norway’s National Geological Monument

Today, we encounter a truly unique island! The small island of Leka, located on the border between Trøndelag and Nordland, holds the title of Norway’s National Geological Monument.

We travel by boat from Rørvik to Leka, where we set off on a cycling tour around the island. The circular route is approximately 30 km, and along the way we make several stops to explore some of the many hiking trails.

On the island’s western side, we are met by mountains glowing in yellow and red shades, reminiscent of an American cowboy landscape. Here, the Earth’s mantle rises to the surface, and cycling through this part of Leka feels almost like a journey into the Earth’s interior.

The Eagle Abduction

Many may have heard the story of the eagle abduction on Leka. In 1932, three‑year‑old Svanhild was said to have been taken by a white‑tailed eagle while playing outside the house where her family was visiting. She was later found safe and sound near the eagle’s nest in the cliff. The site where she was found is marked and easily visible from the road. For nearly 90 years, the story has been a source of fascination and wonder.

Shared farewell dinner in Rørvik

Later in the afternoon, we return by boat to Rørvik, and in the evening we visit the cosy Kork Vinbar, located right next to the hotel. As it is the final night of the tour, we round off the trip with a pleasant farewell dinner at the wine bar.
