About the dam
The dam is approximately 820 meters long, 126 meters tall and 365 meters thick at the bottom and has a volume of 5.3 million cubic meters of stone and gravel. The pond has a core of asphalt. The width of the asphalt core is 0.95-0.50 m. On both sides of the asphalt core, the filter mass has been applied and a 0-60 mm mooring mass is used. The dam was built in 1993-1998 by Statkraft in connection with the power plant at Svartisen. (Source: Wikipedia)

Directions:

From Ørnes it is about 40 minutes drive up to the Storglomvass dam. The exit (and the entrance to the Glomfjord mountains) is between the Svartistunnelen and the Fykantunnelen on FV 17 (just north of the Svartistunnelen). The road is asphalted, but two tunnels without light have a partly poor road surface - this must be kept low and there are some holes in the roadway. Not recommended with caravan / motorhome. Follow the road to the end of Fykanvatnet, where it rises before a tunnel of about 1.5 km - quite steep and without light. Furthermore, you will cross - keep left * to continue to the Storglomvass dam.

Great hiking area
Parking at Namnlausvatnet at Storglomvass dammen is the starting point for the tourist association's trails in the Glomfjord mountains. Here you can go to several cabins - ask the tourist office for more information. Map can be purchased here.

* (The road straight leads to parking at the Holmvass dam - take a walk if you have time - here you can either continue on to the Svartisen itself in Holmvassdalen or get up in the hill with great views to Svartisen and the surrounding mountains at your own risk).
