There is a historical aura hanging over the old church site in Gildeskål. Here is Norway’s oldest inhabited vicarage (1750) and two unique churches. You can experience the aura of venerable cultural heritage at the old church site in Gildeskål! Here lies the long-established Medieval stone church dating from the 1100s with its beautiful and distinct furnishings, preserved as it was more than 300 years ago.
Few sites are this well preserved! Among these old walls, you can learn the history of church customs, faith-related practices and everyday life through fully 8 centuries. You can also encounter saintly traditions from the Catholic period, represented by the church’s guardian saint, St. Thomas of Canterbury.
The church is located just 2 km west of Inndyr and only 9 km from Fv17 - Kystriksveien. The church is on the top 10 list of things you must see in this part of Kystriksveien.
