What is the Self-Drive Tour?
This is an offer for those traveling by car who want to experience the best of the Kystriksveien Coastal Route. When you book this package, you will receive a complete travel itinerary with pre-booked accommodations. Some dinners are also included.
Included in the package:
- 6 nights of accommodation with breakfast.
- A five-course dinner at Hildurs Urterarium.
- A five-course dinner at Vega Havhotell.
- A complete trip description.
Where and When:
These tours start in the south, with the first overnight stay at Lensmannsgården, located between Steinkjer and Namsos. The journey continues to Brønnøysund and from there to the islands of Vega, Dønna, and Lovund.
The package is available for booking in June, July, and August 2026. Start days are Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Prices:
Price per person sharing a double room: NOK 8,750.
Price per person in a single room: NOK 14,150.
The price applies to the standard package. For additional requests beyond the standard package, the price will be adjusted accordingly.
Here is what our package looks like:
Day 1: The first overnight stay is at Lensmannsgården, located between Steinkjer and Namsos.
Day 2: Travel from Namdalseid to Brønnøysund, with an optional detour to the island of Leka. Overnight stay at Hildurs Urterarium*, just north of Brønnøysund, where you’ll enjoy a five-course dinner in the evening.
Day 3: Travel from Brønnøysund to Vega. Five-course dinner and overnight stay at Vega Havhotell.
Day 4: Travel from Vega to Dønna. Overnight stay at Dønnes Gård.
Day 5: Travel from Dønna to Lovund. Overnight stay at Lovund Hotell, where you’ll stay for two nights.
Day 6: Spend the day exploring Lovund and/or take a day trip to Træna. Overnight stay at Lovund Hotell.
Unique Accommodations
The accommodations on this trip are full of charm, and at two of them you will enjoy a delicious five-course dinner. Some properties offer shared bathroom facilities, but these are often the places with the most distinctive character — adding to the authenticity and making the journey truly memorable.

We will confirm availability within one business day after checking with the relevant accommodations. Your experiences along the way
Day 1
The first stop is Lensmannsgården in Namdalseid, just a half-hour drive from Steinkjer. The rooms are individually decorated and adorned with artworks from various artists, with shared bathrooms. Aptly named a creative oasis, Lensmannsgården juggles as an art studio, café, gallery, and accommodation. Enjoy a delightful dinner on-site, but remember to make prior arrangements.
Day 2
The next day, you will proceed to Brønnøysund. You can choose to travel "straight ahead" or take a slightly longer route to visit the coastal town of Rørvik and/or the island of Leka. Upon arrival at Hildurs Urterarium outside Brønnøysund, you will be served a 5-course dinner before spending the night here.
Day 3
The day after, you can visit downtown Brønnøysund or head out to Torghatten to witness the unique geological phenomenon up close. The journey then continues to the World Heritage island of Vega, where you will spend the night at Vega Havhotell. While on Vega, you might want to visit the Vega World Heritage Centre and hike the popular Vegatrappa.
Day 4
The journey continues to Dønna, offering a variety of activities and attractions along the way. Passing through Herøy, do not miss the wonderful flower shop Etcetera, and the stunning view of De Syv Søstre (the seven sisters) mountains. Enjoy your stay at Dønnes Gård at the northern end of the island, including a guided tour of Dønnes Church and a hike up Dønnesfjellet.
Day 5 and 6
The journey concludes at Lovund. Here, you will spend two nights at Lovund Hotel and experience the island's beautiful nature and daily life.
