The Vega World Heritage Centre is located on Gardsøya, where the sky meets the sea - close to the beautiful Nes. Through exhibitions and activities, you will be immersed in the lives of fishermen and islanders, and learn about the background for the World Heritage status. During your visit, you can see, hear, taste, and smell the World Heritage.
The World Heritage Centre is situated with a fantastic view of the archipelago. Experience the exhibition "Wildly Beautiful Vega", watch the film about Vega, and learn about the special interaction with the wild eider ducks as domestic animals.
The main exhibition in the center tells the history of the Vega Islands, from the Stone Age to the present day. The basic exhibition "Our World Heritage" provides insight into world heritage from a global perspective, and temporary exhibitions explore specific aspects of our world heritage. You can learn about the lives of islanders and the eider duck tradition through personal guided tours scheduled at fixed times every day. If you wish, you can also be guided through the exhibition with an audio guide.
During your visit, you can also explore the path around the center, which offers viewpoints in all directions.
Elsewhere in the center, there is a gift shop with a well-curated selection of exciting literature and other fine products, as well as tourist information.
The World Heritage Café is located in the heart of the center. Here, you can enjoy local food and drinks with a fantastic sea view.
