THE GATEWAY TO HELGELAND
The small town of Sandnessjøen at the Helgeland coast , is framed by the most beautiful mountains. The town is a suitable starting point for both short and long mountain walks on the Alsta island and the surrounding islands. De Syv Søstre (The Seven Sisters) mountain range is easily accessible and offers a fantastic view of the archipelago. As a reward, you may treat yourself to a swim in the swimming complex in the town centre.
Sandnessjøen is the regional center of Helgeland and serves as a traffic hub with an airport, a fast-ferry port, and ferry and speedboat connection to the surrounding areas.
The town is an excellent starting point for island hopping by bike. A popular bike route takes you south to Brønnøysund, on to Vega, over to Herøy and Dønna or north to Lovund and Træna.
