PUFFIN COLONY AND BEAUTIFUL ISLANDS
You might have heard of the island Lovund, with the mountain shaped like a fist towards the big sea. Lurøy with its beautiful and magnificent scenery lies just south of the Arctic Circle. Half of the municipality is mainland, the rest are islands. Some of the islands have always been famous landmarks with their unique mountain formations: Aldra, Lurøy, Stigen, Onøy and Lovund.
Should you travel along the mainland you will observe scattered settlements and a mountainous landscape. The road runs parallel to the beaches. From here, pointed peaks rise steeply to over 900 meters above sea level. Take time to enjoy the scenery along Aldersundet. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Kystriksveien.
Shortly after the exit to the ferry terminal in Stokkvågen is Grønsvik Kystfort, displaying the events taking place during World War II.
Lurøy is a vibrant society flourishing with activities and creativity. Use the local speedboat or ferry to get to the islands. There are ferries from Stokkvågen to Onøy, Sleneset, Lovund, Træna and Selvær.
