DIVERSE AND EXCITING EXPERIENCES IN MELØY
From the glacier Svartisen and Glomfjella mountains in the east to the archipelago in the west, the contrasts are great and the distances short in Meløy. For those who enjoy an active holiday, this area on the northern part of Kystriksveien (the Coastal Road) is like Paradise.
Meløy is a diverse place and you should take the time to experience this part of Kystriksveien. Just north of Svartisen glacier is the mountain Glomfjellet, serving as the gateway to Làkho National Park which extends north to Gildeskål and Beiarn municipality. On this part of Kystriksveien there is a short distance between the archipelago and lofty mountains, ensuring diverse and exciting experiences.
If you travel Kystriksveien road 17 from the south, you take the ferry from Ågskaret to Forøy. Going west along road 452 takes you to Åmnes and Vassdalsvik. From Vassdalsvik you board the ferry to Ørnes. Those travelling by bike must take this route, as biking through the Svartisen tunnel is not allowed. North of Ørnes, road 17 continues towards Reipå and into the neighboring municipality of Gildeskål. Here the road runs parallel to the sea and a popular stopover is at Grensen, on the border between Reipå and Gildeskål. This is also a great place to watch the midnight sun!
